Contractors and Workers in the Community

Summer 2024

Greetings dear BIS Members! You may be considering a spring/summer home improvement project or perhaps some of your Broadmoor neighbors are kicking off projects. That means we will have many unknown individuals driving and working throughout the area. Additionally, the usual lawn care and landscaping companies and their workers are becoming more common in the area. That said, we do have several BIS members owned business that have outstanding reputations and a history of excellent service and quality work within the community. Many sponsor BIS and can be seen on the BIS webpage at: www.bis80906.com. I encourage you to keep your business local and call upon these members owned businesses when your needs require.

While the vast majority of contractors that have been serving this community for years are top notch and hire reputable people the fact remains that occasionally some subcontractors or workers that new companies employ are less well known. Regardless there are some things that BIS recommends you consider when it comes to protecting yourselves and your property around unfamiliar contractors and workers in the area. Please consider the following suggestions:

·         Lock your vehicle and home doors when you leave your home even for short periods of time when workers are in the area.

·         When leaving on a trip, don’t make a public display of loading your car with suitcases, camping equipment, skis, etc. when workers are in the neighborhood.

·         If you have workers inside your home - or even when they are working outside your home (window washing service workers, landscape workers, etc.) don’t leave valuables such as cash, jewelry, etc. visible in areas where the workers can see them or can see those items through your windows. Lock those items up and keep them out of sight – safe and secure!

·         When possible, don’t leave workers you are unfamiliar with unattended when they are in your home.

·         If you are comfortable with your neighbors, let them know you will be away and provide them with your emergency contact information. Please feel free to provide them with the BIS phone number if they should observe anything unusual at your home while you are away and ask them to call us immediately if they do see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary.

·         Make a service request to BIS via the web page, email, or telephone number listed below. Let us know if you plan to have any workers at your home while you are away. When we encounter them we will still approach and confirm they are authorized to be at your property performing work.

·         Activate your alarm and set your lights on a timer to activate at night to give the appearance your property is occupied.

·         Enjoy your time away knowing that BIS Officers will “have your back” and keep watch over your property.

The BIS number for service requests is 719-634-4000 and the email is: BIS80906@earthlink.com or on our web page at: www.bis80906.com

Thank you and have an enjoyable summer. Please feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions. Thank you for being a member of BIS!
